Senate Democrats Immigration Plan Replete with Hypocrisy

There is little in politics that I find humorous. And yet I had one of the best laughs I’ve had in a long time when I reviewed the Senate Democrats “plan” this last week!
On March 29th, Harry Reid, the Senate Minority Leader released the details of their plan for the country. It’s mostly filled with the typical tripe and platitudes we’ve come to expect from them: a lot of feel-good words, but no substance. Don’t feel badly if you didn’t hear about it. Much to the credit of the mainstream media, apparently they took it about as seriously as I did.

With their new-found false sense of confidence, the Senate Democrats believe they have found their security niche with the scuttled Dubai Ports deal. They’ve suddenly had an epiphany and discovered that security does matter, as long as it can garner a few votes for them in the mid-term elections.

The humor I find in their plan is their primary objective in the War on Terror: the elimination of Osama Bin Laden.

Follow me on this now. This is the same group that voted nearly unanimously for the Patriot Act in October of 2001 and yet have cursed it ever since. The primary statute providing the operational and legal tools to detect terrorist activity within the United States is something they loathe and disdain.

This is also the group that continues to talk about censure and even impeachment of the President because he authorized the NSA (National Security Agency) intercept of international calls believed to be made by terrorists or terrorist sympathizers. A tool that their hero, Bill Clinton, used as President and continues to endorse.

They claim to support the troops in the War on Terror, and yet don’t support their mission. Forgive me, but if I don’t support their mission, doesn’t that mean I hope they fail? And what constitutes failure? More of them coming home in body bags, or premature withdrawal from Iraq leaving a vacuum of leadership and order that could incubate terrorism for generations? You cannot cheer on a team to victory hoping that they actually lose without betraying an underlying bias, hatred, loathing, or abject ignorance. Frankly in their case, I think the answer is “E”: all of the above.

Further, they seem to have no problem with open borders, yet go into conniptions over the prospect of the sixth largest port operator in the world, owned by an Arab government, running terminals in six of our ports. Sounds a little like choking on a gnat and swallowing a camel.

These are the same senators who criticize the President ad nauseam for not having done enough to capture Osama. Well at least the President went to work with some tools for the job. These Senate Democrats would rather pass a virtual terrorist Bill of Rights that among other things, ensures that terrorists aren’t interviewed by a woman; won’t have to look at the bottom of someone’s shoe; won’t have to endure uncomfortable silence or staring; and most of all, can’t be deprived of their sleep! They also think terrorist prisoners should be treated under the terms of the Geneva Convention, even though terrorists don’t qualify under the United Nations’ own definition of a combatant.

Trying to track down Osama without all the tools the Senate Democrats have so vehemently opposed would be like excavating to build a new World Trade Center, but without so much as a backhoe or a shovel.

The most likely way Osama will be caught will be from a combination of the tools currently at our disposal: NSA wiretaps of terrorist phone calls into the U.S., the law enforcement capabilities afforded by the Patriot Act, and the use of our incredible military prowess and might.
The irony of all this is why I found the “Plan” so humorous. Senator Reid et al don’t even have a grasp of the gravity of the threats facing us, let alone a realistic idea of what it takes to fend them off.

I think I know what secret weapon the Senate Democrats would use to eliminate Osama. Their secret weapon is safely ensconced across the Capital rotunda in Washington. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney of Georgia can serve as their Secretary of Defense and double as Capital Security. She could track Osama down and assault him with her cell phone!
I’m simply illustrating the absurd by being absurd. But the Senate Democrats evince the greatest absurdity of all. The“Plan” is truly replete with hypocritical ironies.
